Class levels and content
The class is a friendly group of typically 12-16 people at Birdwood House in Totnes ( Google Maps here ) The class is designed to provide a foundation and progression in the yoga practices of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing practices), body centring and meditation. With foundations in place we can we can creatively work with these practices to bring ourselves to a place of energised calm and quiet.
My approach to teaching is a fluid freestyle one but with core underpinning principles at play. The classes are realistic to attend for most people ; but whilst yoga is not ultimately about levels of physical fitness, the practicalities of the postures used place some demands on the body. If you have any significant body pain beyond the normal aches and pains we all experience from time to time please feel free to e mail or phone 07915 650106 if you would like to check if the classes are suitable for you. Or alternatively if there is a doubt, an initial one to one lesson may be a good idea, these are £40 - see the one to one information here .
Maximum numbers in the class varies from 12 - 18 .
Joining classes and Block Booking.
You can join the class at any time but please e mail , or phone or text 07915 650106 to check there is space. It is generally best to come once to try the class out before commiting to coming .Once you have joined, the class is not drop in, there is a commitment to attend. You can block book either 5 classes or 10 classes. There is some flexibility to miss classes when you give 24 hours or more advance notice that you can't come/holidays etc and then these classes can be carried over. If I don't hear from you 24 hours in advance that you can't come, then you lose the class. This is the only rule, but I have to keep to it. You can of course stop attending anytime but notice is appreciated.
Drop ins are possible if there is space, but if the class is full, block booking regular students have priority. Please text or phone 07915 650106 to check there is room before dropping in. If you would like to be on the drop in list for full classes for when regular people are not able to attend, or prefer drop in generally, then text me your mobile number and I'll let you know a day before when spaces are available.
Either let me know you are coming in advance and you can pay at class with cash or a debit or credit card, prices above. Or you can buy a card in advance either by doing a bank transfer to Sort Code 08 93 00 Account Number 13149314 - please then e mail or text 07915 650106 to say you have done this . Or use the Pay Pal buttons to the right.
Important - please contact me first before buying a card to check there is space.
I don't want to exclude anyone from yoga due to cost .Concessions are possible if you are a student, unemployed, retired or on a low income. Please ask. It amounts to £1 off per class in whatever form you buy it. Alternatively if money is a problem then a reasonable form of exchange maybe possible, but please respect that this is my livelihood .
What to bring
If it is your first time coming to a yoga class then wear loose or stretchy comfortable clothes and avoid eating heavily before the class.
Mats, blocks, blankets etc
I have some mats and blankets to borrow but in general it is more hygienic to have your own if possible. You can buy online at www.ruthwhiteyoga.co.uk or www.yogamad.com . All other equipment is provided.
If you have significant health issues please check with your doctor or health professional that yoga is a suitable activity for your condition , and please tell me. By all means feel free to e mail or call 07915 650106 .
